Mascara

Hello ladies! Recently I’ve been in search of a good mascara. I’ve tried a few…but I want suggestions! First let me review my most recent mascara purchase, Make Up Forever Smoky Lash.

To be honest I know very little about the Make Up Forever brand and so I had no real expectations for the product. I know they are a well known brand and I know they have strong pigmented shadows, but nothing about their mascara or anything else, really. That being said at my last Sephora raid I picked up this product as my mascara had gone dry. Based on the fact that it’s called “smoky lash” I assumed it would be a bit heavy and that I wouldn’t need to apply too much. For the most part this has been true. The brush is large and designed to add volume to a vast amount of lashes at a time.

This can be a good thing or a bad thing really… I have long lashes and while they are not super curly… I do not need an eyelash curler for them, which is lucky because it doesn’t way my lashes down. However, in my experience with this products so far I’ve also found too much product comes oozed in the cracks of the brush and if you’re not careful it will clump up on your lashes. So fine, I’m careful with that… it’s not a “real” issue, especially for people who DO use eye lash curlers. Also because a lot can come out you can just dip it in once, maybe twice if you spread evenly within those two times. That I learned the hard way, because the first few times it bulked up on my lashes, and it was just a nasty eye makeup fail. >.< I didn’t like this, because it’s never ever been a problem before for me. Alright, so now I know how much to apply and my lashes look long and nice, right!?

Well…yes… They DO in fact look long and nice… EXCEPT FOR:

what’s being marked by the red arrows… See those long lashes going downward…that almost look like they are part of the lashes that grow from under the eye well those completely stick to my lower lashes and as the day progresses and the make-up wears, it gets IN my eye and it is a very uncomfortable feeling. As the day goes on I can feel the excess falling off my eyelashes and when I’m lucky it does not go in my eye and just fizzle onto my skin, but when it does get in it irritates my eyes a lot.

I’ve trie to lighten this pic enough for you to see what my eyelashes look like at the end of the day… how there are particles of it sitting under my eye…and how limp they look.

For some of you this product may work, but I always want to be honest with you all about my experiences, and this has not been the best. I’ll probably keep using it until I finish it as it was $22, but I don’t think it’s worth the monies.

Now for suggestions! Leave me suggestions as comments on here of what you love and are loyal to! I’ll pick about three to test out myself and review in the near future. It doesn’t matter the cost or brand. Likely will not spend any more thant $22 on any tho…so if your mascara costs more than that I can’t afford that right now. Can’t wait to hear from you all. ❤

Bare Minerals (Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser)

I recently started using the exfoliating product out by Bare Minerals. Because I have combination skin that leans more toward dry, I exfoliate minimally every other day, especially in the fall/winter (if you can call that here in LA. 😉 ) It’s definitely a necessity to exfoliate the skin often enough when your skin gets dry bc the pores are so small it’s not getting any moisture, which is the opposite of those with really oily skin!!!

I want to touch on the type of exfoliant this is: It is a thin white powder, which kind of reminds me of talc, but does not contain any. It does not have a nice fragrant smell, it actually has a starchy scent. There are no synthetic fragrances in the exfoliant and so the fact that the second ingredient listed are rice starch-the third being tapioca starch they are the strongest scents released because ingredients are listed from largest amount to smallest amount included in the product.

Instructions are to make sure you’ve splashed water on both your hands and face before pouring a small portion of your exfoliant onto your hands and rubbing them together to produce what they call a “small froth.” I do this in the shower in the morning or evening depending on my schedule for the day on a bi-daily basis. I’ve only had it for about 2 week, but after each use my face feels smooth and refreshed. The first time I used it I thought the consistency was too thin and that I should use more powder but once the froth is rubbed on my face it’s definitely more than enough to cover it. I rinse it off after I rub it on my face for under a minute. No need to leave it on any longer than that. They recommend to use the exfoliating mask along with it, which I do not do (yet). Perhaps I will look into it after further looking into the product. I decided on this exfoliant based it’s ingredients, since I have yet to have no adverse reactions to natural products.

As I become more aware of what goes into my products I understand how good it is that this product does not include any synthetic fragrances. I also would like to mention that there are NO parabens or artificial oils included. This, if you are not aware are good things to look out for in anything you put on your skin. It’s always best to check ingredients, if you don’t already, as you may be allergic to organic and natural products; especially now that it is becoming more and more common in products such as this. Let me know if you have used it and what you think of it or if you do decide to use it. =)

Beauty Social and Temptu Review

Beauty Social

Today was day two of the Beauty Social for Beautylish at the Lowes Hotel in Santa Monica, California. Unfortunately due to prior commitments and school I was unable to attend the 1st day, but from talking to the people working the booths today was the busiest day of the two-day event. I must say it was an awesome event to attend and am glad I was able to make it for the first annual event. There were different brands represented along with speakers from the daughters of one of the Benefit creators to Patrice Grell Yursik the creator of afrobella.com to bloggers such as Christine Mielke of temptalia.com. But my favorite speaker I must say was Billy B. He was very interesting to listen to based on his tenure and personality. He had a lot to say about his beginning and his current experiences. It’s good to hear that it’s not always easy and that for some beauty artist’s it can be frustrating that things happen so fast at times. He talked about his experiences with Lady Gaga and experiences with products themselves as well as recommendations for the every day girl doing her own make-up to the make-up artist working at the counter or freelance. For this being the first Beauty Social I must say I was quite impressed. The room the was decorated beautifully and it was easy access to couches, chairs and booths. There was an entry photo booth section after checking in and yummy non alcoholic drink. (which I loved bc I don’t drink 😉 hehe) The moderator was, however, yelling into the microphone, which someone should have called her out on at some point as it was deafening and it was unfortunate that the more popular booths weren’t bigger to accomodate more people, but every experience is a learning experience and every year will be better, I’m sure. =) So thank you Beautylish for hosting such an amazing event.

Temptu

This is the very first time I have any sort of experience with Temptu or airbrush make-up and it was a wonderful one. I made an appt. with the Temptu booth at the event for 1pm and was promptly attended by a wonderful by Temptu freelancer Adrienne. I highly recommend her if there is ever a time when you will be using this product or want to be taught to use it. She not only is good at her craft but she has great social skills. She makes sure to make you feel comfortable with her. Now to the product, I am quite a picky person; I usually am not too comfortable with foundation because for some reason I can always feel that it lies heavy on my skin. Well, this product was very light on me and I left it on all day. I’m usually the type to come home and immediately take off my make-up if not sooner (in the car on the way home) if I do where foundation. Unfortunately, I didn’t like how it felt when it was being put on my nose and upper lip area. I felt that I couldn’t breathe even tho it was just air and no fumes. I don’t know how the famous do it so often, but it was fun to experience and perhaps I will do better if and when I do airbrush again. Perhaps I was just was caught off guard and will be better prepared for what to expect in the future. I will leave you with a picture of me with the product on (Foundation: Sand, Concealer: Med, Blush: Bronze, Highlighter: Pink Pearl, Powder: Transparent) and pictures of the social.
