BareMinerals Pressed Powder Shadows

I wrote this post forever ago and then I don’t know why I never published it! Anyway, it’s a bit delayed since I wrote it right when they quads were released, silly me.

I got “The Soundtrack” quad, which includes a matte highlighter and three shimmery shadows in gold, bronze and olive tones. I also got “The Honeymoon Phase” and “The Alter Ego” duos. The Honeymoon Phase is simple, classic and beautiful. It contains the peachy matte pink and a slightly shimmery gray color that go beautifully together and The Alter Ego has shimmery yellow green and a matter plum that offset each other nicely. The duos retail for $20 on their website and the quad retails for $30.

These soft touch containers are beautiful and classic, the texture of soft touch containers is my favorite; I always think it’s classier too. I don’t think I have a specific favorite between the quad and duos as I really like the texture and colors of all of them. I have medium olive complexion and I find that bronze, golds and purples suit me well and these all contain those colors or highlighters that I believe suit everyone! I’m glad that bareMinerals has decided to add pressed shadows to their skews, because I’m sure like me, others are out there who have a preference for pressed over loose. An attribute that the quad has is a large compact mirror that won me over, because some compacts add a small mirror to go along with their shadows, blushes etc… but bareMinerals has included an all filling mirror that is rather large. Love love love!

Neon Makeup Colors!

We know trends come in and out, so neon colors being in trend shouldn’t bring up a “why” question but rather is just a cycle of fashion that’s been back for a bit.

Really the only “neon” color/s that exist are red-orange and the rest are fluorescent, but somewhere down the line we started calling them all neon colors. We all know color is how we perceive color reflecting off of the object. Fluorescent colors use a larger amount of both the visible spectrum and the lower wavelengths compared to conventional colors. They not only absorb and convert light energy of the dominant wavelength, but also the wavelengths of ultraviolet rays and other colors lower in the visible spectrum. As a result, your eye perceives a far more intense color.

KA`OIR lipstick

KA`OIR Orange, Green and Blue lipstick

In the somewhat creepy mesh of lips that I put together above we have “neon” lipstick in orange, green and blue. These are “in” and though I personally don’t wear them I have seen people out there who do. (PS. They have a promo code, which I’m sure is ending soon KAOIR4TH; in case you’re interested). KA`OIR’s whole makeup line is made up of tons of fun colors and it’s very on trend. Trends in colors aren’t only in makeup or clothes, but both combined as well as in furniture and decor. I’m sure you’ve seen girls dressed in pants the colors of the lipsticks, I have pants in the fun blue myself! haha

Here is a different brand with very bright eye shadows, that keep in the theme of bright neon makeup. Lime Crime is known for having bright highly pigmented makeup. I think it looks great! If I wasn’t on a budget I would have stocked up long ago. I think the colors are amazing, they match everyone’s current closet and are fun colors to wear.

How do you all feel about this current trend? Are you embracing the neon color comeback? Bright colors! Haha

NYX HD Eye Shadow Base

Do most of you experience that toward the end of the day or even a few hours your eye shadow just falls off? Yea? Me too! I hate it!!! It makes me look messy and unkempt. Who wants to look unkempt and feel gross; it makes me feel ugly because of the fact that all my eye shadow and liner are sitting and the bottom and corners of my eye. NOT. OK. Granted, I don’t wear eye shadow often, for as much as I have, but I want to feel pretty when I do in fact where it!

NYX HD Eye Shadow Base!

In comes this lovely product, the NYX HD Eye Shadow Base, bam- the solution! A friend told me about this, and I hadn’t really made an effort to get it since as I said, I don’t wear eye shadow enough and the nearest ULTA, where I would get it from other than ordering online, isn’t exactly close. After a couple of months of knowing about this product I ended up purchasing it and it took a bit before I used it. Actually, the first time I used it was my graduation! I did my makeup around 12 and the eye shadow stayed on through the rest of the day. My day ended around 10:30pm! I’ve used it a few times since then. I like it a lot! Maybe I’ll start using more eye shadow now.

Mixing Eye Shadows!

Hellooooooo

So as I mentioned on Friday I graduated this past Saturday from FIDM. Well to do my makeup I was in a rush… between showering and other showering and getting dress, doing my nails (I didn’t have a chance the night before) PLUS the all important makeup. I did something fun, which I originally wasn’t sure how it would work…

Mixing up Purple and a highlighter eyeshadow.

Honestly this could have made me waste time than gain time, I lucked out. First I applied the NYX eye shadow base along my eyelid and the crease; not too much, but enough to cover the area. I was told about this awesome little product by a friend. I don’t wear eye shadow often, because I just don’t have the time and I don’t currently work at a place where how I dress even matters, but when I have an occasion to go to I pull it out and have it work it’s magic.

Secondly I was swiped one of my eyeshadow brushes in the plum colored eyeshadow and then in the highlighter shimmery shadow and swooped it over the eye! (I used Tarte of coures, but the item was an exclusive to QVC and is no longer available from what I could tell.) So what I did is I found a palette with similar colors that I used: Lorac PRO Palette

Lorac-Pro-palette

A Lorac Palette with Plum and a highlighter colors

Alright, the purple I used is much like the one on the lower row second from the right, or in this palette “Deep Purple” and the “White,” which in this palette seems to be matte. In my case both had some shimmer to them, but I think both work, and of course some people ONLY like matte colors, or will only use a shimmer color if they can offset it with a matte color and so, something like this palette would work best for you. I had less purple on the brush than the highlighter as it’s such an intense color, that I didn’t want to look bruised up. After applying over they eye, I won’t say it was perfect, but it looked so nice combined. Following the first application I added a little more and then cleaned it up with a clean brush and voila, I was done!

Later in the day I was complimented on my eye shadow, which is good as I belonged to the Beauty Industry program 😉

Make Up For Ever Blush Powder Irish Green 93

MUFE green blush!? Really? It’s a beautiful green, I must say. I had been looking for a beautiful teal green for an eyeshadow or “Irish Green” and when I first picked it up a few months ago I didn’t really pay attention to the fact that it’s a blush rather than a shadow, but that’s fine with me! Make Up For Ever doesn’t carry the same beautiful green in shadows; I would say it falls somewhere in between their “Turquoise Shimmer” and “Turquoise Matte.” Irish Green is a matte blush, that I’ve yet to ever use as blush, perhaps one of these days I’ll “go wild” so to speak and try it in that form, for now I use this product as an eyeshadow.

What do you think, beautiful or what? But, does it work as an eyeshadow? I would say it’s more of a day shadow than an evening one for sure. The pay off isn’t great, but that could be because of the fact that it’s meant to be a bit more sheer blush than shadow. It comes off through out the day, but I wet the brush before applying because it has a little more give that way and I’m sure if you were to use primer it would be more effective. I’ll definitely continue to be on the look out for a better shadow in the same green as this, I love it, it’s in season and it will be wonderful for the summer as well.

I hope all of you have a great Easter Sunday!!!

Eye Shadow Under the Eye

One of my favorite looks [fads] that comes and goes each year is having some color under the eye not just on the lid, crease and etc.

Michelle-Tratchenberg

Here is Michelle Tratchenberg with a pine-ish green under her eye, which is my personal fav color to have.

For me in particular greens and teal work best, though I do like using a bronze now and then. Products that I have blogged about in the past of product you can use for this are the Almay Intense i-Color and the Tarte smolderEYES. Since they’re pencils both retractable or not, are easy to apply, however if you have a pressed shadow you really love a really thin brush works too! Just like when you do a smokey eye. I have a couple of pressed powders that I love to use, so there are a lot of ways to achieve this look. Loose powder is not as easy, because it can get a bit messy if you’re not use to it, but wet your brush a bit and it won’t take much product to achieve the look.

Tarte SmolderEYES – Amazonian Clay

Tarte Tarte Tarte! I love Tarte’s products!

I recently acquired the smolderEyes Amazonian Clay

from Tarte, in bronze! (I definitely need green btw)

Tarte-SmolderEYES-Bronze

smolderEyes in Bronze

Like most products nowadays it is a double sided pencil with a smudger to create the dramatic look you want. I’m not big on the smokey eye, because I don’t believe everyone can pull it off, as much as people say you can. I am one of those people and any honest person will tell you it’s not for everyone!!! HOWEVER, I apply it in the style of Twiggy.

Very 70s-esque. I just need to get the lashes down right and I’ll be a happy happy camper! …but that’s for another entry entirely.

bronze-smoldereyes

It's slightly more bronze than it appears in this picture.

Smudger

Do Any of you use Tarte? I recently started to, and so far I’ve liked everything. I haven’t, however, used their eyeshadows. There will be more Tarte posts soon, perhaps tomorrow on other products I possess of theirs. The Tarte SmolderEYES really surprised me, because the edge doesn’t scratch my eye like many other pencils do. I also really appreciate the fact that the sharpener was included and I did not have to buy it separately. The smudger could be better and hopefully will be if it becomes a core item. I’m not sure if the Tarte Amazonian Clay is a seasonal product line. Check it out though at Sephora or Ulta or even their own website if you fancy shopping online. Sephora is also great about returns, if for whatever reason it isn’t your cup of tea.

FYI The Tarte SmolderEYES comes in golden black, bronze, plum, charcoal, brown, navy, olive and fig.

Have fun with Tarte Products they’re simple youthful, but not so much that a more mature generation can’t use them. If anything I believe Tarte cosmetics is the right amount of youthful, in the sense that they appeal to women from their mid to late 20s – 40s. Can you tell I’m a fan?

Pharmacy Cosmetics – Almay

Almay makeup anyone?

My original post today was two compare two similar primers from Smashbox and Make Up For Ever, but as luck would have it I left my bag of makeup at home. Doing so much good there, right? Boo! Usually I don’t wear makeup on Fridays but today I had an errand to run around lunch time and wanted to put a little eyeliner and brow pencil on aside from the primer to compare and take pictures for. Clearly this has not worked out, but I will work on it this weekend or sometime next week.

What did I end up doing instead? I ran to the corner Walgreens and got myself some color and a liquid liner from Almay. Why Almay? They had a 50% discount! Since it’s makeup I’m likely only going to keep here at work in case I forget my bag some other time. So what did I get?

intense-i-color-shadow-stick

Intense I-Color Shadow Stick

I didn’t get those colors you see in the picture. The two duos I got are the following:

Almay-intense-i-color-duo-for-hazels
Duo for Hazels
Almay-intense-i-color-duo-for-browns

Duo for Browns

So what do we think about the payoff for an $8.00 color duo stick? (I got it for $4.00 plus tax – Yay sales!) A. the pink is not going to have the same payoff as it looks on the stick. This is fine, you can use it as a highlighter, but don’t expect a rich pink. Also it clearly crumbles easy with too much of a hard press. I love the brown, and the payoff is exactly what you see, which makes me happy. The Duo for Browns has better pay off as well. Not the green crumbled with too hard of a press, but otherwise looks very pretty along side to the gold, which on the stick appear more like an ivory cream than a gold. Colors for the line include: duo for blues, duo for browns, duo for greens and duo for hazels.

almay-intense-i-color-liquid-eyeliner

Almay Intense I-Color Liquid Liner

almay-intense-i-color-black-pearl-for-hazel

Black Pearl For Hazel

The payoff for the liquid liner is descent. You have to apply twice to get a full line and possibly three times if you are trying for a cat eye. There are four colors including Black Pearl: brown topaz for blue eyes, purple amethyst for brown eyes, and raisin quartz for green eyes. Clearly the selling point is to tell you that it is for a certain color eye, this is just marketing, use whatever color pleases you. Whatever color you think would look best on you or matches your wardrobe for the day. The same goes for the i-color duo above.

What pharmacy makeup do you use? Do you even care for it? Is it taboo? Is it all you use? Let me know!

Oscars 2012 Makeup

The 2012 Oscars!

Did you ladies watch? I’m a fan of Billy Crystal so I made sure to watch. I was so excited haha. I also adore Miss Piggy so I’m glad I didn’t miss her! This blog is just a quick overview of a few of the lovely ladies!

michelle-williams-oscars-2012

Michelle Williams

What does everyone thing of Michelle Williams in a coral dress, a bright pink lip, earthy eyes and a soft blush? – I actually think these colors on her make her look dewey and pretty. She has somewhat pasty skin and so it livens her up and the makeup being subtle but giving off a natural glow is perfect. If I were to remake her look without knowing what products were used on her I’d go with Youngblood Cosmetics Mascara, Stila Cosmetics Gel Liner, Josie Maran Cream Blush, Tarte Amazonian Clay in Fair, Youngblood Cosmetics Tinted Moisturizer and Impassioned to Shop from MAC.

VIOLA-DAVIS-oscars-2012

Viola Davis

I loooove that Viola Davis went in her own natural hair! I loooove loooove that! She looks beautiful like this, I mean seriously she should go with this look more often. Also a tealish green is beautiful on her. I.want.her.earrings! For the eye I would get MAC Zoom Lash Mascara, Tarte SmolderEyes Amazonian Clay in black, Turquoise Shimmer 83 from MUFE for eyeshadow, Smashbox HD D1 Foundation, Tarte Mineral Powder Bronzer and Dior Dior Addict Lipstick Sheer Peachy Pink.

Rose-Byrne-Oscars-2012

Rose Byrne

Rose Byrne went in a nude soft look, which was a nice offset to the black sparkly dress. Don’t you agree? Lips NARS Belle de Jour, NARS Soft Touch Eyeshadow Pencil in Aigle Noir, MAC Zoom Lash Mascara, Bare Minerals Golden Gate Blush, and Lorac Foundation.

Octavia-Spencer-Oscars-2012

The Big Winner, Octavia Spencer!!!

Oy! I was so moved by Octavia Spencer’s emotional acceptance speech! She was so adorable, surprised and her world was so obviously amazing at that moment. She couldn’t have a better reaction. I didn’t love her dress, but her face looked flawless. To recreate her look I’d use MUFE HD Invisible Cover Foundation, Josie Maran Beautiful Eyes Palette Eyeshadow, Lorac Ooh La Lace Baked Shimmer & Matte Eye Shadow Palette, Benefit Cosmetics High Beam, Yves Saint Laurent Créme Blush Silky Praline, and NARS Pure Matte Lip Madere.

Miss-Piggy-Kermit-Oscars-2012

Miss Piggy and Kermit

Miss PIGGY! She looks so pretty. Where do they find these wigs and clothes for her? I mean really she’s stylin’ for a Muppet. ❤
